How to sign “Mother” in BSL

Family & People

BSL and ASL are different languages — this is the British sign. See the ASL sign for “Mother” instead

Step by step

  1. Form the BSL letter M with your dominant hand.
  2. Tap it against your open non-dominant palm twice.

Practice tip

Practise the two-handed BSL M shape on its own first, so the double tap lands cleanly on the palm.
