How to sign “Need” in ASL

Everyday Basics

BSL and ASL are different languages — this is the American sign. See the BSL sign for “Need” instead

Step by step

  1. Make the letter X: a fist with a hooked index finger.
  2. Bend your wrist downward.

Practice tip

The hooked X handshape bends at the wrist. Do not confuse with ASK, which starts as a straight pointing finger.
