How to sign “Hungry” in BSL

Food & Drink

BSL and ASL are different languages — this is the British sign. See the ASL sign for “Hungry” instead

Step by step

  1. Place your dominant hand flat on your stomach.
  2. Rub the stomach in a small circular motion a few times.
  3. Add a hungry facial expression to reinforce the meaning.

Practice tip

A small circle is enough — big sweeping movements look exaggerated rather than natural.
